{"id":3241,"date":"2016-01-19T17:33:08","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T16:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chartmogul.com\/blog\/?p=3241"},"modified":"2023-08-09T21:01:56","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T19:01:56","slug":"the-first-timers-guide-to-saastr-annual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chartmogul.com\/blog\/the-first-timers-guide-to-saastr-annual\/","title":{"rendered":"The first-timer&#8217;s guide to SaaStr Annual"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>What\u00a0is SaaStr Annual 2016?<\/h1>\n<p>It will be the biggest gathering of senior SaaS professionals in\u00a0history!\u00a0 Well&#8230;maybe&#8230;Dreamforce is bigger but it&#8217;s also more diluted, SaaStr is purer SaaS.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u00a0read my notes\u00a0from\u00a0attending <a href=\"https:\/\/chartmogul.com\/blog\/saastr-annual-was-freaking-awesome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last year&#8217;s SaaStr Annual<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0the quick version is that the event was so good we <a href=\"http:\/\/saastrannual.com\/sponsors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decided to sponsor<\/a> this year and fly\u00a0five of the team\u00a0out from Berlin.<\/p>\n<h1>What\u00a0to prepare and bring with you<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure to download the event app, you can connect with other attendees and\u00a0view the agenda.<\/li>\n<li>Plan which talks you want to see &#8211; the speaker lineup\u00a0is fantastic and there will be many great talks &#8211;\u00a0but\u00a0you can&#8217;t see everything (there are two tracks). \u00a0You can bookmark talks in the event app.<\/li>\n<li>Bring a notepad, there&#8217;s so much knowledge and tips being shared, I ended up with pages of valuable notes last year&#8230;and this time it&#8217;s three days instead of one!<\/li>\n<li>Bring a LOT\u00a0of business cards &#8211; you&#8217;ll be meeting with founders, investors, existing customers, potential customers, potential partners, come\u00a0prepared.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re flying in from overseas it&#8217;s a good idea to\u00a0arrive\u00a0a couple of days early to adjust to the time difference (we\u00a0will be\u00a0flying in from Berlin on the 6th of Feb so we&#8217;ll have a couple full days to adjust to the 9\u00a0hour\u00a0time difference). \u00a0There&#8217;s no point to fly in and then be yawning throughout the event.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you remember to charge your phone overnight, being at an event all day with a dead iPhone is just frustrating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>What to expect when you arrive<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Last year the event wasn&#8217;t small, but it wasn&#8217;t a &#8216;huge&#8217; event, this year I&#8217;m guessing\u00a0it&#8217;s going to be around three\u00a0times bigger &#8211; so it will feel big.<\/li>\n<li>Last year the event\u00a0was basically split into two parts: upstairs there were talks going on and downstairs there was the booths, networking and food area. \u00a0The venue map hasn&#8217;t been released for this year yet, but by the looks of things there will be tonnes more sponsor booths, one megastage and one smaller stage.<br \/>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Do not speak at SaaStr Annual if u have stage fright <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3aY3S1LHaX\">pic.twitter.com\/3aY3S1LHaX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jason M. charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s mostly senior (and very senior) SaaS execs\u00a0attending (decision makers) &#8211; so deals get done, partnerships\u00a0are made knowledge is\u00a0shared &#8211;\u00a0we met and eventually closed two of our largest customers to date at the conference last year.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0networking is second to none if you&#8217;re in SaaS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Other stuff going on in the same\u00a0week<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>The official party is on the Wednesday evening.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s also some\u00a0unofficial\/invite-only parties and meetups going on during the week.<\/li>\n<li>ChartMogul will be hosting customer meetup on the Friday evening (12th Feb) &#8211; invites didn&#8217;t go out yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>If you need a Time-out<\/h1>\n<p>If three days of\u00a0non-stop SaaS awesomeness wears you out and you need a breath of air, I recommend taking a stroll through Huntington Park which is just across the road
