What is ARR in SaaS?
Annual run rate (ARR) is a forecast of your annual revenue, calculated by multiplying your monthly recurring revenue (MRR) by 12. For SaaS companies that offer monthly subscriptions, ARR will be a forecast of how much revenue you’ll earn if your current customer base remains subscribed. Annual recurring revenue (also ARR) is slightly different, measuring your confirmed annual revenue from annual or multi-year contracts. ARR software is used to correctly calculate ARR.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ChartMogul?
ChartMogul is a CRM and Subscription Analytics platform that helps B2B SaaS companies grow. SaaS companies operate on a subscription model, where customers pay regularly for access, with the option to upgrade or downgrade. This creates complexity in monitoring active customers, revenue, and churn rates. What’s more, this data is typically housed across a range of platforms such as Stripe, Chargebee, Intercom and Hubspot, which use different data models, definitions and create silos of information.
ChartMogul Subscription Analytics helps SaaS companies manage their subscriber base by tracking all customer movements and financial metrics in one place. These metrics give crucial insights into the performance of your business so you can better understand what’s working, what’s not, and inform strategy development and decision making. Analyze a range of churn metrics including revenue churn, customer churn, net revenue retention, and gross revenue retention, as well as standard SaaS metrics like MRR, ARR, LTV and growth rate. You can also track metrics around leads, conversions, create custom charts and put the most important information into dashboards for the entire team.
ChartMogul CRM tracks and organizes customer and lead data including contact information, email communication, purchases and activity history. It is uniquely tailored for B2B SaaS companies, seamlessly integrating self-service and sales-led opportunities, and facilitating efficient account management.
How does ChartMogul plug into my tech stack?
ChartMogul combines and normalizes your subscription information together by importing customer and invoice data from your billing systems such as Stripe, Chargebee and many more.
Data from invoice line items is normalized into subscriptions and then used to generate key metrics using industry-standard calculations. ChartMogul metrics are updated automatically when data is imported from your billing system via standard integration or custom integration built using our API. Metrics can also be manually updated by importing subscription data using CSV or adding it directly in the platform.
ChartMogul also imports customer and lead data from Hubspot, Segment, Intercom or any other platform via API, to keep contact information up to date and enrich customer records.
You can export data from ChartMogul to a range of destinations including Snowflake, Big Query and Amazon S3, or use our webhooks for custom destinations.

How does ChartMogul calculate ARR?
In ChartMogul, annual run rate (ARR) shows the annualized equivalent of your monthly recurring revenue (MRR). In SaaS, this is typically done by taking MRR and multiplying it by 12. This is the most popular meaning of ARR, and the most useful for SaaS businesses today.
ChartMogul calculates the monthly recurring revenue (MRR) for each active subscription and watches for changes, called movements including new customer purchases, expansion, contraction, churn and reactivation. MRR movements are generated from invoice data and manual subscriptions.
Both ARR and MRR only include the recurring portion of your revenue, known as subscription revenue. Any one-time charges or fees are excluded from MRR and ARR calculations.
While closely connected, ARR and MRR are useful in different ways. ARR measures the overall health of your SaaS business on a large scale. In contrast, MRR helps you make decisions on a micro level. In ChartMogul, you can project future income by looking at your ARR, helping you plan future expenses like new hires or marketing initiatives, plus, helps tell your story to attract investment.
