How do ChartMogul and GrowPanel handle messy billing data?
ChartMogul and GrowPanel both offer settings that affect how billing data becomes MRR, but ChartMogul gives you more of them. ChartMogul also adds tools for correcting the data itself: in-app record edits, duplicate merging, and linked subscription histories.
Data settings. Both tools let you choose when churn is recognized and auto-churn past-due subscriptions after a set number of days, with separate thresholds for card and manually invoiced customers. ChartMogul also lets you choose whether MRR is reported when an invoice is issued, partially paid, or fully paid, and whether voided, refunded, and written-off invoices are excluded. GrowPanel publishes no setting for either. GrowPanel does let you decide how one-time discounts and zero-MRR subscriptions are treated, where ChartMogul applies a consistent rule to both.
Data editing. ChartMogul lets you correct records in the app: adjust a subscription's MRR directly, or edit, add, or disable invoices, line items, and transactions, with an update history on every change and nothing written back to your billing system. For example, when an upgrade is invoiced as a one-time charge, you can reclassify that line item as recurring so it counts toward MRR. GrowPanel exposes raw invoice records through its API and MCP server, but in its live demo, a customer's transactions and line items are view-only, and its documentation doesn't say whether edits survive the next sync from a connected billing system.
Duplicate customers and migrations. ChartMogul detects duplicates on company name, domain, external ID, email, primary contact email, or custom attributes, merges them manually or automatically, and links old and new subscriptions into one continuous history with Connect Subscriptions. GrowPanel publishes no customer merge or linking across billing systems, so a customer who moves between them appears as two separate records.
How do ChartMogul and GrowPanel reports compare?
Both cover MRR, ARR, churn, cohorts, LTV, cash flow, and forecasts. They differ in which billing systems they read and in a few specialized reports.
Billing systems. GrowPanel's native billing integrations include Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly, and it imports anything else through Google Sheets or a custom API. ChartMogul connects to those three among more than 30 billing systems, including Braintree, PayPal, Paddle, Maxio, QuickBooks Online, the App Store, and Google Play, and calculates the same metrics from each. The full list is on ChartMogul's integrations page.
Cohorts and segments. Both tools let you filter and group cohorts by plan, country, and custom attributes, including HubSpot properties. ChartMogul has eight cohort reports, covering subscriber, MRR, and quantity retention and churn, plus trial and non-subscription conversion, at daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual granularity, and clicking any cell lists the customers behind it. GrowPanel has two cohort reports, net revenue retention and logo retention, at weekly to annual granularity. In its live demo, clicking a cell shows the retained totals but not the customers behind them.
Payments. GrowPanel's Failed Payments report tracks how failed charges resolve, whether recovered, churned, or still at risk. ChartMogul's cash flow report shows failed payments and refunds by period, alongside recurring and non-recurring payments.
Free and paid subscribers. ChartMogul tracks free and paid subscribers as separate subscription types, reports churn both across all subscribers and for paid subscribers only, and shows how many customers upgraded from free to paid in each period. ChartMogul.js, a snippet added to your web app, can also create records for free users who never appear in a billing system. GrowPanel counts only active, paying customers as subscribers, and its lead reports cover people who haven't yet started a trial or subscribed. In its live demo, there's no customer status or report for free-plan subscribers, and no view of which free plan a customer is on.
Where can you send ChartMogul and GrowPanel data?
Both sync with HubSpot in both directions and connect to AI assistants. ChartMogul also syncs calculated metrics to your data warehouse.
Data warehouses. ChartMogul syncs to Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, plus Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. It sends calculated data, such as MRR and CMRR movements, and normalized source data, including invoices, transactions, subscription events, plans, and customers with their attributes. Both tools offer CSV exports, webhooks, and an API, but GrowPanel has no direct integrations with data warehouses.
HubSpot. GrowPanel pushes MRR, ARR, plan, status, and lifecycle dates to HubSpot companies or contacts, matched by email, email domain, or GrowPanel customer ID, and pulls HubSpot properties back as filters. Domain matching misses customers using personal email addresses or billed under a different domain, and the GrowPanel ID only works once it has been added to each HubSpot record. ChartMogul can match on an identifier you already store in both systems, such as an internal company ID in Stripe metadata and a HubSpot property, then writes cleaned metrics to the matching company record daily and imports HubSpot companies and contacts hourly for segmentation.
MCP. Both host a remote MCP server with OAuth. ChartMogul's is listed in Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's app directory, with more than 80 tools covering metrics, cohorts, customers, CRM records, and cash flow. Every tool is read-only, so an assistant can analyze your revenue data without changing it. GrowPanel's server has 14 tools, which can read reports and also modify customers, plans, invoices, data sources, and settings.
How do the AI features in ChartMogul and GrowPanel compare?
Both include an in-app AI assistant that answers questions about your revenue and breaks changes down by plan, region, or cohort to find what's driving them. Where they differ is what the assistant can see. ChartMogul AI also draws on connected email and product activity, and GrowPanel has no email integration and no tracking snippet, so its assistant can't draw on customer correspondence or in-app activity.
ChartMogul connects a mailbox over Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP and logs customer correspondence against the right account, and ChartMogul.js records when each user was last seen in your app. So when you ask which customers are at risk, the answer weighs each customer's MRR trend alongside what they've been saying and whether their team is still logging in.
Can you automate actions when a subscription changes?
In ChartMogul, yes. When a customer schedules a cancellation, the account manager can be assigned a task and the customer can receive an email while the decision is still fresh. When an account's MRR crosses a threshold, it can be assigned to a different account manager automatically. These are only two examples. Workflows can start from many other changes to a customer's subscription, from a new trial to a subscription going past due, and each can combine tasks, emails, and email sequences to match how your team works.
GrowPanel sends webhooks and Slack notifications, but has no workflows that assign tasks or email customers.
How do you switch from GrowPanel to ChartMogul?
Connect the same Stripe, Chargebee, or Recurly account, and ChartMogul imports its full history, so your MRR timeline reaches back to the first invoice.
To confirm the numbers line up, compare GrowPanel's MRR per customer per month export with ChartMogul's. Expect some differences, usually from churn timing, past-due thresholds, discount handling, and how each tool groups movements that land close together. The ChartMogul team will help identify and explain any discrepancies.
What does GrowPanel offer that ChartMogul doesn't?
A few specific features and a lower price. GrowPanel breaks expansion and contraction MRR into subtypes, separating growth from add-ons, plan upgrades, and expiring discounts, and decline from plan downgrades, quantity decreases, and new discounts. It also forecasts cash flow, can lock exchange rates to a fixed date, and reports on customer concentration. And its free plan covers more revenue than ChartMogul's, up to $200K ARR.
None of that changes what the reports are built on. GrowPanel reports on what the billing system records, with no in-app editing and no merging or linking across billing systems, and it connects to fewer of them. GrowPanel's own comparison page says ChartMogul may be the better choice if you send data to a warehouse or are well above $10M ARR.
How does ChartMogul pricing compare to GrowPanel?
ChartMogul starts with a 14-day trial. After that, it has a free plan for smaller companies, and paid plans can be billed monthly or annually (see pricing). GrowPanel is free up to $200K ARR, with paid plans from $49 a month billed annually.
