ChartMogul reads from Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, Maxio, and more than 30 billing systems in total, and adds the tools to correct and configure the data behind them, combine more than one billing system, send the results to your warehouse and AI assistants, and pull HubSpot properties back in to segment your metrics by them.

How do ChartMogul and ProfitWell handle messy billing data?

ProfitWell treats your billing integration as the source of truth and does not support editing its data. ChartMogul lets you correct integrated records directly, set the rules behind the numbers, combine more than one billing system, and merge duplicates without losing history.

One billing system per account. ProfitWell connects one billing platform per account, so a team with multiple billing systems, or splitting customers across two accounts on the same platform, needs a separate ProfitWell account for each and has to switch between them to see the full picture. You can add customers manually alongside your one connected platform. ChartMogul combines every connected billing system into one account and one set of metrics.

Data editing. Paddle's help center says ProfitWell does not support editing subscription data from a native integration. The documented fix for a wrong record is to exclude the customer, which wipes their history from the dashboard, and add them back as a manual customer. ChartMogul lets you edit, add, or disable invoices, line items, and transactions from any integration, with nothing written back to your billing system. For example, when an upgrade is invoiced as a one-time charge, you can reclassify that line item as recurring so it counts toward MRR.

Data settings. ProfitWell always counts a customer as churned when their paid period ends, not when they cancel, with no setting to change it. ChartMogul lets you choose whether churn is recognized at cancellation or at the end of the paid period, whether past-due subscriptions auto-churn and after how many days, whether MRR is reported when an invoice is issued, partially paid, or fully paid, and whether voided, refunded, and written-off invoices are excluded. ProfitWell publishes no equivalent settings.

Duplicate customers and migrations. ChartMogul detects duplicates on company name, domain, external ID, email, primary contact email, or custom attributes, merges them manually or automatically, and links old and new subscriptions into one continuous history with Connect Subscriptions. ProfitWell publishes no customer merge or subscription linking.

How do ChartMogul and ProfitWell reports compare?

Both cover MRR, churn, LTV, ARPU, and cohorts. ProfitWell's reporting stops at a handful of standard dashboards, while ChartMogul calculates more than 40 metrics out of the box, including committed MRR, net and gross revenue retention, quantity and seat metrics, and revenue and subscriber growth rates.

Cohorts. ProfitWell has customer and revenue retention cohorts. ChartMogul has eight cohort reports at daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual granularity, filtered by plan, region, or your own custom attributes, and clicking any cell lists the customers behind it.

Billing systems. ProfitWell connects to Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora, Recurly, Chargify, Recharge, and Uscreen, one at a time. ChartMogul connects natively to Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, Maxio (formerly Chargify), the App Store, and Google Play, among 30+ billing systems, all in one account. Recharge and Uscreen are the two ProfitWell integrations ChartMogul doesn't connect to natively, though its Import API can bring in their data through a custom data source.

Where can you send ChartMogul and ProfitWell data?

ProfitWell sends metrics to HubSpot, Salesforce, and Intercom. ChartMogul also sends metrics to HubSpot, syncs calculated metrics to your data warehouse, and answers metric questions in AI assistants.

Data warehouses. ChartMogul syncs to Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, plus Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. It sends calculated data, such as MRR and CMRR movements, and normalized source data, including invoices, transactions, subscription events, plans, and customers with their attributes. ProfitWell publishes no warehouse destination, and its data leaves through CSV exports and its API.

HubSpot. ProfitWell sends customer subscription data to HubSpot contacts, companies, and deals every 4 to 8 hours, matched by email, and creates a new HubSpot record when no match is found. Paddle's own documentation warns that the email may be null, non-unique, or incorrect, so it shouldn't be relied on as a unique identifier. ChartMogul writes cleaned metrics to the matching HubSpot company record daily, matched on company name, domain, external ID, email, or any custom property, and imports HubSpot properties hourly so you can segment revenue by them.

MCP. Paddle hosts a remote MCP server for the Paddle Billing API, plus a Docs MCP for its developer documentation. For Paddle Billing customers, the Billing MCP can report and chart Paddle's own metrics, such as MRR and active subscribers. ProfitWell Metrics' reports, such as cohorts, and data from billing systems other than Paddle live outside that API, so an AI assistant can't reach them through Paddle's MCP servers. ChartMogul's remote MCP server is listed in Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's app directory, with more than 80 read-only tools that answer questions about MRR, churn, cohorts, and customers without changing your data.

How do the AI features in ChartMogul and ProfitWell compare?

ChartMogul AI answers open-ended questions about your revenue in the app, drawing on billing data, HubSpot properties, connected email, and product activity. ChartMogul AI can also build a chart from a description, or analyze an uploaded file alongside your subscription data. ProfitWell Metrics publishes no in-app AI assistant.

ChartMogul connects a mailbox over Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP and logs customer correspondence against the right account, and ChartMogul.js records when each user was last seen in your app. So when you ask which customers are at risk, the answer weighs each customer's MRR trend alongside what they've been saying and whether their team is still logging in.

How do you switch from ProfitWell to ChartMogul?

ProfitWell and ChartMogul both read from your billing system, so there is nothing to export. Connect the same Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, Chargify (Maxio), or Paddle account, and ChartMogul imports the full history.

To confirm the numbers line up, compare ProfitWell's MRR with ChartMogul's for the same months. Expect some differences, usually from churn timing, customers you excluded and re-entered in ProfitWell, and duplicates that ChartMogul merges. The ChartMogul team will help identify and explain any discrepancies.

When is ProfitWell / Paddle the better choice?

ProfitWell Metrics is the better choice when standard subscription metrics answer your questions, your billing data never needs correcting, you bill through a single platform, and you want analytics at no cost.

Paddle adds two things ChartMogul does not do. Paddle Billing acts as merchant of record, handling sales tax and compliance, with ProfitWell Metrics built into its dashboard. Paddle Retain recovers failed payments with automated dunning and presents offers to customers who try to cancel, and it works with your existing billing stack.

The bottom line

ChartMogul and ProfitWell Metrics both report MRR, churn, LTV, and cohorts from your billing data. ProfitWell Metrics is the simpler choice when its standard reports answer your questions, your billing data never needs correcting, and you bill through a single platform, since it costs nothing. ChartMogul is the stronger choice when billing data needs correcting, when you bill through more than one platform, when you want to choose when churn is recognized, when calculated metrics need to reach your data warehouse or an AI assistant, or when you want to pull HubSpot properties back in to segment your metrics by them.

Common ChartMogul vs. ProfitWell / Paddle questions

Can ProfitWell Metrics edit data from my billing system?

No. Paddle's help center says ProfitWell does not support editing subscription data from a native integration, because it treats that data as the source of truth. The documented fix is to exclude the customer, which wipes their history from the dashboard, and add them back manually. ChartMogul lets you edit, add, or disable invoices, line items, and transactions from any integration, with an update history, without losing the customer's history.

Can ProfitWell Metrics connect more than one billing system?

Not in one account. ProfitWell connects a single billing platform per account, so teams using more than one, or splitting customers across two accounts on the same platform, need a separate ProfitWell account for each, switching between them to see the full picture. Manual customers can still be added alongside the one connected platform. ChartMogul combines every connected billing system into one account and one set of metrics.

How does ProfitWell recognize churn?

Paddle's own documentation says ProfitWell counts a customer as churned when their paid period ends, not when they cancel. There's no setting to recognize churn at cancellation instead. ChartMogul lets you choose either, along with a delinquency period for past-due customers.

Can I use ChartMogul if I bill through Paddle?

Yes. ChartMogul connects natively to Paddle, Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, Maxio (formerly Chargify), and other billing systems. Paddle keeps handling billing and tax as merchant of record, and ChartMogul handles the analytics.

Can ProfitWell Metrics send data to Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift?

ProfitWell publishes no warehouse destination. It sends metrics to HubSpot, Salesforce, and Intercom, and data leaves through CSV exports and its API. ChartMogul sends calculated metrics, such as MRR and CMRR movements, and normalized billing data to Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage on a schedule.

Does Paddle's MCP server include ProfitWell metrics?

No. Paddle's MCP servers cover the Paddle Billing API and Paddle's developer documentation. For Paddle Billing customers, that includes Paddle's own metrics, such as MRR and active subscribers, but not ProfitWell Metrics' reports, such as cohorts, or data from billing systems other than Paddle. ChartMogul's remote MCP server is listed in Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's app directory, with more than 80 read-only tools that answer questions about MRR, churn, cohorts, and customers.
