ChartMogul vs. Equals

Competitor claims last verified October 22, 2026, against their own websites and documentation. See the sources

Equals is a spreadsheet connected to live data from Stripe, your CRM, and your warehouse, with an ARR Build for Stripe and an analyst assigned to your account. ChartMogul does one job: it calculates subscription metrics the same way for everyone, from whichever billing system you use, and lets you correct the data behind them.

How do ChartMogul and Equals handle messy billing data?

Both let you correct billing data and set rules for how ARR is counted. ChartMogul offers more settings and corrects data at a finer level, and applies the same rules to every billing system.

Data settings. Both let you choose when churn is recognized. ChartMogul also lets you choose whether past-due subscriptions auto-churn and after how many days, whether MRR is reported when an invoice is issued, partially paid, or fully paid, and whether voided, refunded, and written-off invoices are excluded. Equals publishes no setting for past-due subscriptions. Equals' ARR Build adds options for counting new ARR at contract signing or first payment, a restart window for returning customers, and how paid trials and discounts are treated.

Data editing. Equals corrects the start date, end date, or ARR amount of an invoice, with an optional note, and marks corrected invoices with a purple label. ChartMogul lets you correct records at two levels: adjust a subscription's MRR directly, or edit, add, or disable invoices, line items, and transactions, so a single wrongly classified line on a multi-item invoice can be fixed without overriding the whole invoice, and every change carries an update history.

Duplicate customers and migrations. When the same company pays through two accounts, or a migration leaves a customer cancelled in one system and new in another, ChartMogul merges the records and links the old and new subscriptions into one continuous history. Equals lets you exclude customers or domains from the ARR Build and publishes no customer merge.

How do ChartMogul and Equals reports compare?

ChartMogul gives every team the same prebuilt subscription reports. Equals gives you a spreadsheet where you can build any report you like, and where the definitions are yours to maintain.

Shared definitions. In ChartMogul, MRR, churn, and retention are calculated once and every chart, export, and integration uses the same numbers. In Equals, the ARR Build provides the base, and each workbook applies its own formulas on top. That flexibility is real, and it also means two workbooks can disagree on the same number. Equals makes each figure traceable, since you can click into any number to see the formula and query behind it.

Cohorts and segments. ChartMogul has eight cohort reports at daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual granularity, filtered by plan, region, or your own custom attributes, and clicking any cell lists the customers behind it. In Equals, cohorts and segments are workbook analyses you build or adapt from a template, and then maintain.

Billing systems. ChartMogul calculates the same metrics from more than 30 billing systems, including Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, the App Store, and Google Play, one or several, with no implementation. Equals' ARR Build works with Stripe. For other billing systems, Equals' analysts build ARR reporting as a custom implementation.

Where can you send ChartMogul and Equals data?

Both can write to your warehouse, your CRM, and AI assistants. ChartMogul sends standardized subscription metrics, while Equals sends whatever you build in a workbook.

Data warehouses. ChartMogul syncs to Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, plus Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. It sends calculated data, such as MRR and CMRR movements, and normalized source data, including invoices, transactions, subscription events, plans, and customers with their attributes. Equals writes the views you build into BigQuery or Snowflake every 6 hours, or when you refresh a view by hand, and syncs connected sources into its own Snowflake-powered warehouse for querying inside Equals.

CRM. Equals' writeback pushes any sheet column to HubSpot or Salesforce, on Business plans and above, once your Equals CSM enables it, and its documentation notes that a writeback cannot be undone. ChartMogul writes cleaned subscription metrics to the matching HubSpot company record daily, matching on company name, domain, external ID, email, or any custom property.

MCP. Both run a remote MCP server with OAuth. ChartMogul's installs from Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's app directory, with more than 80 read-only tools. Equals' works in Claude Team and Enterprise and in ChatGPT on the web, while Claude Free and Pro connect through a local bridge in Claude Desktop, every call uses Equals AI credits, and it isn't listed in Claude's connector directory.

How do the AI features in ChartMogul and Equals compare?

Both answer questions about your data in the app. Equals answers from your workbooks and connected sources, and shows the formula and query behind each figure. ChartMogul AI answers from your subscription data, HubSpot properties, connected email, and product activity.

ChartMogul connects a mailbox over Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP and logs customer correspondence against the right account, and ChartMogul.js records when each user was last seen in your app. So when you ask which customers are at risk, the answer weighs each customer's MRR trend alongside what they've been saying and whether their team is still logging in.

How do you switch from Equals to ChartMogul?

Connect your billing system, and ChartMogul imports its full history, so your MRR timeline reaches back to the first invoice.

Then review the corrections in your Equals ARR Build. Start date, end date, and ARR amount overrides need to be replicated with ChartMogul's invoice editing, which covers the same fields plus line items and transactions. Workbooks that join billing data with Salesforce or product data have no direct equivalent in ChartMogul, so teams either rebuild them on ChartMogul's warehouse export or keep Equals for that layer. The ChartMogul team will help identify and explain any discrepancies.

When is Equals the better choice?

Equals is the better choice when your team wants to build its own analysis in a spreadsheet, across billing, CRM, and warehouse data, rather than use a standard set of subscription metrics.

Its workbooks join Stripe, Salesforce, HubSpot, and warehouse data directly, writeback pushes any calculation into your CRM, and dashboards can be sent to Slack or email on a schedule. Every plan includes a forward deployed analyst, with two implementations per plan, which matters for teams without their own analytics function. The two tools also work together: teams keep ChartMogul as the source of subscription metrics and point Equals at ChartMogul's warehouse export for cross-source analysis.

How does ChartMogul pricing compare to Equals?

Equals starts at $24,000 a year, billed annually, with no free plan or self-serve signup, and a trial tailored to each customer. ChartMogul starts with a 14-day trial, has a free plan for smaller companies, and offers monthly or annual billing on paid plans. See ChartMogul pricing for the current plans.

The bottom line

ChartMogul and Equals both turn billing data into ARR and churn, but they are built for different jobs. Equals is the stronger choice for bespoke analysis that joins Stripe with Salesforce, HubSpot, or warehouse data in a spreadsheet, with a forward deployed analyst to help build it. ChartMogul is the stronger choice when subscription metrics need one definition across finance, sales, and customer success, when you need more control over how they are calculated and corrected, or when you bill through something other than Stripe.

Common ChartMogul vs. Equals questions

Does Equals calculate MRR and churn out of the box?

For Stripe, through its ARR Build, which has settings for when new and churned ARR are counted, a restart window for returning customers, paid trials, and discounts. Other subscription metrics are built in workbooks. ChartMogul calculates MRR, churn, retention, and cohorts out of the box, the same way for every billing system it connects to.

Can Equals merge duplicate customers?

Equals' ARR Build lets you exclude customers or domains, and publishes no customer merge. ChartMogul detects duplicates on company name, domain, external ID, email, primary contact email, or custom attributes, merges them manually or automatically, and links their subscriptions into one history.

Why are my numbers different in Equals and ChartMogul?

Most differences come from calculation rules rather than errors. Equals' ARR Build counts new ARR at contract signing or first payment and churn at the cancellation request or the end of the billing period, and any workbook built on top can apply its own formulas. ChartMogul lets you choose when churn is recognized, when past-due subscriptions auto-churn, and whether MRR is reported when an invoice is issued or paid. Corrections made in one tool and not the other account for most of the rest.

Does Equals have an MCP server?

Yes. Equals runs a remote MCP server with OAuth that works in Claude Team and Enterprise and in ChatGPT on the web, while Claude Free and Pro connect through a local bridge in Claude Desktop, and calls use Equals AI credits. ChartMogul's remote MCP server installs from Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's app directory, with more than 80 read-only tools that answer questions about MRR, churn, cohorts, and customers.
